I think the park is nicely set-up. My son and I have camped a number of times in the last couple years. It's clean great camp sites, and it's quite. The people who run the place are very friendly, and helpful.

After seeing the spectacular sunset turn the lake its splendid shade of red, a natural feat from which it gets its name, we were very glad we chose McKinley. Just minutes from Soudan Underground Mine State Park and both the wolf and bear centers in Ely, it was a good choice for us. In mid June we were able to get a last minute spot for one Sunday night. Only cons were coin operated showers and no shade on site closest the bathroom. Be prepared to pay for trash $1 for a bag but great work on recycling area.
Beautiful spot. I can't give a 5 because it closed for season when we visited.
